So I have to vent. I have had a gazillion comments ever since I moved here about my age. Everyone thinks I'm a teenager! The first time was when some high school kids came to my house to sell something and asked me "Is your Mom or Dad here".Let's just say I didn't buy what they were selling! Then after I had Allegra, we went to dinner w/ our friends Seth and Betsy. They have a little boy two days younger than Alley. So we were waiting for our table and an older lady asked Betsy if both of the babies were hers. Betsy said explained that one was hers and one was mine. The lady looked at me and said, "No, you couldn't be older than 16!" I've had a few other comments since then but then this last Friday we were at Sam's Club and the girl checking me out said "Wow, you look really young. Like your 17 or something!" What in crap people! They are so rude! So I said "Actually I'm 28. But maybe when I'm 40 and I look like I'm 30 I'll appreciate that comment." Maybe I should just embrace it. I should start saying, "yeah I'm 16. Being a pregnant teenager really sucks!" I don't know, I really shouldn't care. It's the lack of respect that really pisses me off! Come on people. I wear my wedding ring and have two kids. At least say I'm 21! I guess when I'm out running my errands people just look at me and think that I'm some hussy teenager that got knocked up a couple of times. EEEEEEERRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
So I have a two part question.
1- Give me some good comebacks.
2- I'm attaching two pictures. One w/ short hair and one w/ my current long hair. Do I look older w/ short or long hair?

Here's me age 24.

Age 28.
Do I look older w/ short hair or not?

Sid you crack me up! I wish I looked super young but I don't. I also think looking thin/healthy, as you do, helps that. Anyway, I have to say I like you better with short hair since it gives you more volume. However, I think you look older with short hair. But who care what others think let them think you are super young... they will all be jealous when you look 30 in your 40's. If you do decide to cut your hair I want to see a picture!!! I love change!!!! I would cut mine all the time if I could but Dave would have my head!
Sid-
I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I was just complaining to Ryan that everyone at work, from the customers to my co-workers, calls me kiddo. Come on! I'm 32 with four kids! How about some respect! Just be glad they don't think you're ten years older! I have a friend who gets pegged in her early 40s, and she's your age! You look great. Just accept that you're young and beautiful (darn it) and don't worry about what other people think. P.S. I like your hair both ways . . . keep it how you like it.
Sid, you are just too smokin' hot...and people can't believe it! I think you look younger with short hair, but it could be because you were younger...I like your hair both ways. I'm always impressed by people that can pull off short hair. Being a long hair person myself. Short hair seems harder to me with kids. You actually have to do it! I can't handle not being able to have a ponytail. You know all my comebacks! I definitely think you should say..."Yes, actually I am 18, thank you for asking...I planned on each of these children...I wanted to have them when I was young."
I thought about this post long and hard as I slathered on Oil of Olay on my crowsfeet. And I pondered it some more while I poured concealer onto the airline runways beneath my eyes. Fortunately, I came up with a solution for you. Instead of cutting your hair, you should highlight it...with grey highlights. Not a ton, just enough to dance around your face so people say, "she looks so young, except for that grey hair."
For real though, when people give you crap you should say, "In my fundamentalist religious cult they had me marry my uncle (point to Joel) as soon as I hit puberty. Do you really think I look 16? Gosh. I better get some oil of olay. I'm only 14."
Dude, I totally get this all the time. The best is that I am prego and whenever people see me without my kids they ask, "oh is this your first?" and I shockingly reply, "no my fourth." You should see their faces, its like I told them I was having a monkey. Its annoying here and I live in Utah! Texas must be way annoying. The other day we were out at the mall and some lady though my kids were my moms. She was shocked when we told her they were all mine because she thought I was 16. I think I look older with my hair shorter. But I honestly can't tell with you. You just look like the hotty you are, ya know?
I like Carol's suggestions. They are right on.
Sid, you look great both ways...maybe a little older with short hair, but...can you change your pretty young face or your slim body????? NO !!!!so.....enjoy the good times ! When you turn 50 and somebody asked you if you're 35, just SMILE and tell them HOW right they are !!!!!!!!!!
PS. in the mean time take it as a compliment!!!!
Although short hair is traditionally the style for "older" women, I think I like the long hair better. But if older is the look you're going for, then short is probably your best option.
Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one getting the young comments. I still think it's CRAZY!!! Carol, you crack me up! I love the cult comment. ANd I am seriously considering the grey highlights. Maybe I'll do a nice white strip like Stacey London has in What Not To Wear. Shauna!!! Kiddo! Are you kidding me! I feel your pain! You too La!
haha... i'm laughing reading all the comments... i concur with betsy. embrace your hotness... long hair, short hair. you make it all look good, babe. :)
so, uh... how's book 3? my love for edward runs deep.
As the only man to weigh in on the issue, and thus the only one with reason and common sense here is my much consider opinion and suggestion. First my opinion, you look much too young and pretty in either picture and need to drastically age yourself. The following course of action, although somewhat drastic will provide immediate and effective results, meaning knowone will ever question your age. What I did, as well as several other men in the family (joel, syd, hubie, dad, etc...), was to grow fascial hair, put on at least 40 pounds and lose some hair on top. Feel free to mix up the combinations to find one that works for you. Trust me your age will no longer be brought up. Best regards.
Aaaahhh Ryan Ryan Ryan, you are sooo funny!!! Of course I would only take your opinion seriously (concerning the whole men have more common sense than women) if you used correct grammar!!!! Just Kidding, I guess I'll have to try the facial hair thing. Than I wouldn't get comments on my age, but possibly my gender and of course lots of strange looks! But hey, it's always fun to mess w/ people's minds! Love you!
P.S.S., Like I have room to talk. My spelling and grammar suck!
Hmm...I think you probably look a little older with short hair. I know what you mean about not wanting people to think you're a teenaged hussy with a couple of kids already, but I really do think your youthful appearance with be a blessing in the long run. People probably don't realize it's annoying. I don't get that a lot I guess, but the few times I have, it was weird. My grandma and I went out to eat when Dylan was like 18 months old. I had my hair pulled back in a ponytail so I'm sure that didn't help, but the lady made some comment about how he couldn't be mine because I was so young (hello, he's not my grandma's...she's 81). I didn't give it much thought, but said, "Actually I'm 26 and he's my first child." Weird. So I guess if that happened all the time, I'd be annoyed too.
Here's my most recent age comment. This cute intern who's only 20 was asking me all sorts of questions about my life, family, kids. When she found out I had two kids, she was pretty shocked so I guess that means she thought I was too young to have two kids. She asked, "How old are you?" I told her 29 and she said, "Oh." It was in this poor you tone of voice too. So I think I'd rather have her think I was young and shouldn't have two kids yet than realize that she thinks my real age is old. Then she said, "Well you don't look 29." I think that's a compliment on top of an insult, but I'm not sure. She's totally cute though and I don't care one bit, but it was a weird moment. So I guess I do understand a little. People are just too quick to judge in general.
Sidney, embrace it!! I get that too and it does bug but honestly, it's a very GOOD thing... Having hit my 30s, as cheesy as it sounds, I do appreciate it when people think I'm in my 20s!! Mark too because he's turning 37 in June and people are always thinking he is much younger... It's a good thing... and keep your hair LONG! Such a fabulous look for you (the skinny jeans, too - keep wearing those! I'm 9 months pregnant and still wear skinny jeans... I shouldn't be wearing them, trust me... but I do just to feel "cool & hip" with really long shirts to hide the chubby pregnant booty! :) You are beautiful, absolutely gorgeous! Embrace, embrace, I say!
I get it too, nothing like being asked what high school I go to. My advice is to look at them at say, "Man, it's really tough being a unwed teen mom. Do you think you spare some cash so I can buy food and diapers for my kids this week?" :)
